Mithali Raj & Indian Women Cricket Team – A salute!

Who has not been impressed enough with the recent show of our ladies in the Cricket World Cup 2017 with their gallant march to the Finals by taking one world class team after the other down!

They took everyone by surprise with the inexperience in their team & played excellent knocks of 100s & taking multiple 5 wickets especially by Spinners. Indian team looked inspired, motivated & FRESH! They were wanting to go for the Kill & looking to WIN all the time.

Words fail me to impress Mithali Raj who has become a role model for me for sure with her cool headed & non interfering approach, solid knocks & smiling yet confident personality. Her body language exuberates Modesty, Dignity, Mental Strength, Defyness, Eagerness to prove all wrong against all odds.
Her story has impressed me & am sure so are the stories of 14 other girls who have come against various odds in their lives to perform at the big arena & become a world class player! Its not easy & everyone should know that.

In India, women sports is not really looked upon as a career option after so many years of Independence, Education. Though things have changed & we have had some national heroes like Mary Kom, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Sindhu, PT Usha, Dipa Karmakar, Sakshi Malik recently. But we are nowhere when compared to West & our culture, mindset has to go a long way to change for things on ground to change. Money shall flow, management shall improve if we get more & more acceptance from Society & Families at grass root level.

Perhaps this is the reason why I am so heart-broken at Ladies not winning the Cup. Rest am sure they have done more than their best & have made us so so so Proud while giving us so many moments to cherish & cheer for! Am still rooting for Women IPL to start soon.

Heart goes out to Mithali & Jhulan – am hoping against hope that they will give next World Cup another chance for us as they still have a lot to offer.

Rest am sure, things will change for the better! Amen

India – a method to the chaos

This statement is quite casually put to explain the way India operates to people trying to understand Indian system.¬†Even scientifically a lot of institutions have ¬†tried to find justification to the above statement with no consolidated results to showcase so far. But it won’t be wrong to suggest that above statement DOES explain a lot what is wrong and still correct with Indian system. Someone can hear a song – “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.. (Still heart is Indian despite everything).

The traffic is the first and perhaps biggest system management representation of how Indians operate, how they flung the rules, how considerate they are towards others. Not to say that everyone is bad or everything happening here is wrong as 1000+ people die everyday in India on road but as the optimist shall say 1crore+ people are saved as well :). The requirement is definitely for making traffic laws and law guardians ie traffic policemen/ladies more empowered – increase their salaries, make them more accountable, train them, help them in becoming no less efficient than an army officer or an investment banker for that matter.

Same can be said for law & order situation in India – the police administration, the judicial system are pillars without which any democracy or country will fail. In India, there are millions of ways of finding loopholes in here to find a way for yourself. A highly functioning country cannot afford to have 1 in 2 policemen who have oodles of pounds added around the tyre region who fail to empathise forget giving help to the needy. Again, a revamp with focus on their basic qualification, aptitude, attitude, fitness, salary structure is in the order.

Agriculture, Municipal societies, Education, Medical, Government services sectors are representing above examples’ chaos as well.

There have been a few sectors which have seen privatisation post the liberalisation policy of 1992 – Aviation, Telecom/Communication, IT services, Media, Food & Beverages, FMCG, Banking, Pharmaceuticals, Construction/Infrastructure are chief I can recall among others. These sectors have seen practices from abroad coming into implementation, a good level of competition to out do each other, high influx of educated youngsters joining them, consistent growth & contribution towards GDP, certain positioning at international scenario for India.
Not to stress that jobs in these sectors are in high demand at engineering, MBA and other colleges.

My country is great – nobody can deny or takeaway that from me. Am moment and again filled with the optimism for the highest notch that my country can reach. I am also one of those old school people who value the rich culture, family values, history values that my country keeps close to Her heart. Though what is required along with the Govt reforms is change of approach/attitude of my own countrymen/ladies – to not think of themselves first at every opportunity. In public places – think for the public too, while in a queue – keep your patience for others too, while driving or being driven – respect other people’s comforts/lives too.

Today, my country is highest growing nation in the world – its no mean feat achieved basis hard work of countrymen favoured by govt policies. Let us not stop till we are able to provide every single Indian anywhere in the world with clean food to eat, clean water to drink, healthy air to breathe, clothes to cover, shed to protect heads and few other basic amenities along with respect, dignity to withstand anything.

Love, Power & Amen!

More thoughts on my last Facebook post..

About a month back I had put up a Facebook post about which I feel very strongly towards however to majority it is a touche` or tentative subject on which they do not share their honest views openly which I understand.
The post was regarding how most of my school, engineering, MBA friends end up abroad (mostly USA) and how other people here also appreciate their lifestyles more than India.
I remember it was based on my interactions with friends, their posts on social media and their in general perception about living in India.

Though I have to admit that there are others like me who are fighting it out here for logical practical work reasons and not just emotional reasons which I truly appreciate. Especially the entrepreneurs who are daily trying to make something new despite challenges are my favourite.

I thought that it is important I describe myself more here and share my viewpoints in hindsight so I can be understood where am coming from.

I do agree that a lot of recent Indian growth, development, investments, revolutions of sorts be it retail, IT, telecom, internet, e-commerce, startup culture is inspired from western stories. The learning, consumer insights, equipments developed in there have helped our adoption easier and faster.
I also truly appreciate how western market has attracted some great talent from worldwide and also appreciated them lately with so many non first-gen Americans becoming leaders of best brands.

However, it is the general hoard or the trend that gets created of every engineer, MBA or even a girl after marriage to end up in USA which I find difficult to fathom.
This is unhealthy and not required to be appreciated/encouraged blindly for sure.

India has been independent only for 68 years after 200 odd years of foreign enslavement. Even for 100 years before that (mostly after Akbar & Maratha rule ended) India has not been very assertive about its power and growth. While the world saw so many revolutions based on social, economic, political, ideological, cultural, scientific reasons – India was not allowed even a window view inside it. We were made to suffer, struggle by our non appointed rulers & guests in the name of religion, culture, poverty.

It took America also 200+ years to become an economic leader pushed by 1st and 2nd world wars when Europe damaged itself beyond repair.
India shall gain that position on the basis of its human talent(academics), manpower, young population, pro technology society and spirituality too shall play an important role. It is imperative that we learn from America’s & other Western world’s mistakes & don’t end up screwing out society like theirs. We can definitely do away with their non-human touch, almost no concern for family concepts, too much commercialism in everything.

Somehow I feel positive, it could be as our government is trying its best to make India appear as the centre of investments and talent and we are the only country that can achieve double digits growth from here on.

I love my country and I will try my level best to make it the best – nobody is taking that from me, even the best guy in the world.. He will have to be based here!

Live by example – Dearest, Our Abdul Kalam

When I read, hear, think of bestest people like you – selfless, passionate, hard working, patriotic, great mind & human being my mind thinks what can I do to take your teachings forward.

Another thing I feel bad is when I see around me & find 99.99% people wasting their lives by worshipping screen idols, materialism more than true values and great idols like you.

Answer to both these questions is to conduct your life to live by example. Live your life in a way that others get forced to change their thoughts and ways. Do it as a sense of indifference with no expectations whatsoever, do it as you love to do it.

Coming to Mr. Abdul Kalam, you were no less than Buddha, Gandhi to us growing kids around you. It was us you wanted to touch and inspire with your words and work, I know that I will give everything I have to achieve that 101% to make India developed by 2020.

Thank you Sir Kalam!

The division of roles within our society and our role into it ..

This topic has been playing in my mind since sometime that what role do we as commoners, consumers, service class, middle class, economic driven, socially driven people play in the bigger picture of running a society/country/world..

For this I had to go back a little into the history of Indian society and other societies about how strata of people used to be described – the protectors in the form of soldiers, the teachers in the form of purjaris/brahmins, the functionaries/economic/consumer class or the traders and then the working class in the form of farmers, labourers, etc.

In my opinion the first, second and the last ones are the most important without whom the society will loose its sheen and can’t survive for sure.. also they are the most respectable in no definite order.. Most of us fall in the third stratum which forms the majority of the society and is perhaps the most lazy, consumption oriented, selfish, unpatriotic, ignorant, etc. category.

Not that there are not the good signs to it but very difficult to find high words to decorate this society.. Perhaps the most important function of this part is to ensure functioning, faster, better, happier, using lesser resources, bettering the means of functioning. Creating a better society is something that this category should aim to work for as the other three strata spend their blood, sweat, soul to ensure this one aspect remains safe and secure and happy..

Quite funny actually how we all try and look for some amount of respect for ourselves in an area that is not even meant for respect … May be something you are able to create in this space that exceeds the contribution/impact of either of these 3 then you will be able to earn some respect from your ownself at least.. Amen!

Neerja Bhanot… a heart felt salute !

You shall be definitely one of those I would wanna meet when I come up there! One day we all have to.. how honourably we live, what difference we make towards lives of others.. how well we live is most important!
You did your bit extremely well – equally or better than Bhagat Singh or Gandhiji if I might say..

Courage, Commitment & Compassion – the 3 words companies/institutions try to imbibe for hundreds of years! You showed in a span of 17 hours…

There have been heroes before/after you but none I can recall have lived the way you did and has made me think so much – wonderful student, daughter, sister and above all a committed professional..
In short everything, middle class girls like me aspire to be and become.. but do we go to the extent to ensure we cover that extra mile..
I hope I do when the moment calls for it.. in wisdom and righteousness..

Am sorry that I was ignorant about your achievements till now..
How minuscule my life appears after seeing your mammoth achievements..
You did what only heroes or rather superheroes do..
(4 points – cautioning the pilots, being a calm mind to take care of passengers, presence of mind to hide american passports, when they open fired – you made way for people to rush out and died saving 3 young kids!)

Comparing what have I done in my professional life so far – tried to give my best to help customers, distributors out, earn crores for my company, tried to develop digital solutions..Tried to come out as a compassionate person..
But I have not done something outstanding….!

God is fair, Life is zero sum game to ensure we get what we deserve! Am sure you got and will get more than you deserve..!

Amen!
